u know ur INDIAN from Guyana if :1) u call one another "coolie" but threaten to chop up anyone else who uses that word. (with a cutlass !!) 2) u think "Lotay Lah" is religious indian cultural music. 3) school ends at 3pm and u have to be home, or "catch house" by 4pm (it takes an hour to get home by bus.) 4) u've got that cheesy plastic covering over ur CHEAP ASS livingroom sofa, dining room table, and chairs so they won't get messed up. 5) u spend ur summer vacations in either : upstate new york, florida, or canada (and u still think ur getting "exposure to new cultures.") 6) u eat curry at least 3 out of 7 days a week. 7) ur entire wardrobe smells like curry. 8) ur entire house and the furniture in it smell like curry. 9) u know at least 5 girls with first names ending in "tie" or "tee") such as : Basmatie, Lilawatie, Lilouttie, Gaitree, Savitree, Shantie, or Artie. 10) u never refer to roti as just "roti," u specify what type, such as : "dhal pourri", "sadha roti", "parata roti", or "dhosti roti." 11) u turn 21 and ur single, and already ur relatives are calling u an "old spinster." 12) when u were a young girl ur mom used to "plat" ur 4- foot tall hair into two big long braids for school. and... 13) of all people, ur father asks his friend "Ramlall, the local drunk", to keep an eye on his daughter in case she misbehaves !! |
